Daily Bulletins, 1943–1945

Daily bulletins were published throughout the war, like special orders, and numbered sequentially from the first issue of each year. They told the men what was happening around the base.

At a minimum a bulletin gave the hours blackout was in force, named the Officer of the Day for each of the next seven days, and listed the officers in charge of liberty runs over the same period.

Beyond those standing items came notices of general interest: war bond and blood drives, church services, lost and found, and practical arrangements such as “Transportation for dates of Officers attending ‘Left Over Party’ will leave from Officers Red Cross Club, Bedford, at 2000.”

The collection is incomplete, running from December 1943 through September 1945. Its source materials were provided by Bill Carlile, and the run ends where it does because he left the base in October 1945. Read together, the bulletins give a good sense of daily life at Station 111 and Thurleigh as the war went on.
