Station 111 Telephone Directories

Two directories for the 306th at Thurleigh, one from the middle of the war and one from its last months there.

The Directories

Two telephone directories survive for the 306th Bombardment Group while it was stationed at Thurleigh: one from the earlier part of the war, and one from the Casey Jones period, before the Group left for operations from continental Europe.

Read together they show how the station changed. The 1st Bomb Wing of the 1943 directory was later redesignated the 1st Bomb Division, and the 306th moved to the new 40th Combat Wing under it. The ground support commands in the 1945 directory are different again: they are the result of the Army Air Forces reorganization of 15 April 1945, which dissolved some commands and combined others into new ones. Special Order No. 101 in the 1945 special orders shows how that reorganization reached units such as the 4th Station Complement Squadron and the 39th Service Group.
